Adaptogen
Adrenal and Immune Support*
Adaptogen is designed to support endocrine and immune functions and alleviate signs of occasional stress. It is helpful for fatigue and other signs of occasional stress by boosting immune defense and promoting emotional well-being and energy.*
Adaptogenic herbs, often referred to as tonics, support adrenal and immune function and enhance the body's ability to adapt to and cope with mental, physical and metabolic stress. Healthy adrenal gland function is essential to many physiological functions including energy generation, stress adaptation, and the immune response. Adaptogens have been shown to increase energy, enhance stamina, and reduce fatigue. Adaptogens also help to balance the immune system, the endocrine system (such as the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands).*
Research has shown that Astragalus extracts have healthy immune maintaining effects in humans and increase serum IgM, IgE and cyclic AMP concentrations.*

| General Comments
Adaptogen is a term coined by Russian researchers to describe a class of herbs which help the body adapt to the unrelenting stress of modern existence. These are thought to achieve their effect primarily by supporting the adrenal glands, which bear the brunt of the ill effects of continued stress. Our Adaptogen formula is conceived as a foundational support for virtually all endocrine and auto-immune disorders, as stress plays a well-recognized role in taxing health.*
Fatigue is sometimes associated with an "adrenal picture." Especially under emotional strain, the adrenal glands can work overtime. If the stress is prolonged, the adrenal glands can be over-worked, or "burned out" to a degree. This can lead to complaints such as lightheadedness upon standing, as well as low blood sugar problems (shakiness, irritability, or headache, when people go too long without eating). Also, Adaptogen may provide support with insomnia.*
Adaptogens are thought to support not only the adrenals, but also to support in digestion, circulatory tone, and various hormonal imbalances. Adaptogens are so generally supportive that it is sometimes said, "When you don't know what to do...give adaptogens."*
Adaptogen herbs are among the most well studied herbs in the medical literature. Adaptogen can be thought of as the Healthy Foundation of the endocrine system. Indeed, if you were hungry and on a campout, you could eat potatoes or rice and feel quite well. In a similar way, either Adaptogen, or Healthy Foundation can provide support with a variety of health issues. Adaptogen is generally recommended when there is a lot of emotional stress and low adrenal signs, and Healthy Foundation is generally used when there are digestive issues.*

Adaptogen: 1 capsule three times a day.
Other Uses of Adaptogen
Adaptogen is particularly handy as a secondary or supplemental support for a wide variety of endocrine problems. Essentially, any time one is trying to promote a change in the endocrine system, Adaptogen may provide support. Perhaps the only downside to using Adaptogen in the following settings is if patients don't want to take very many pills from a convenience or financial standpoint. But for those people who want as much support as they get, Adaptogen is often very good to add.*
